Legitimate Use of Force

Take a good look at what's left of Lebanon; the Israelis are about to reduce it to rubble. They've had enough.

I'm not sure what it is about the Arab (and in the case of Hezbollah, Persian) mentality that requires them to constantly throw themselves into the fire. One would think that the series of severe beatings they've received every time they've attacked Israel in the past would have taught them a degree of circumspection when they take it into their skulls to start poking sticks at the lion.

As for what the United Nations had to say:
...the bombardment of sites with alleged military significance, but resulting invariably in the killing of innocent civilians, is unjustifiable. International humanitarian law is clear on the supreme obligation to protect civilians during hostilities. This obligation is also expressed in international criminal law, which defines war crimes and crimes against humanity. International law demands accountability. The scale of the killings in the region, and their predictability, could engage the personal criminal responsibility of those involved, particularly those in a position of command and control.

A few points:

1) The fantasyland in which the U.N. holds sway may have wars in which collateral damage is somewhere between zero and nil, but in this world, that doesn't happen. It's a war zone.

2) To imply even marginal similitude between a pack of Persian-sponsored terrorists and the civilian-controlled military forces of a democratic country is asinine to the point that it stretches credibility to hear it uttered. The United Nations had best look after its own house, as it seems to be full of rats.

3) Israel's government has the tacit approval of the United States government to deal with this problem in the manner it sees fit--including invasion, if such should become necessary. As the United States is the only set of teeth the United Nations can even remotely rely on to enforce its so-called policies, this latest bloviation is nothing but a fart in the wind.

Reality is something that the United Nations--and many in the United States--have been isolated from for so long, they've found ways to weave a complex fabric of personal fantasy into a "new reality." This is nothing unusual in human history; it's only when people begin to attempt superimposition of that fantasy world onto the real world that things start to go all wobbly.

The United Nations can either wake up to the ugly facts of the single superpower world and help the United States and her allies deal with the problem areas in an expeditious and efficient manner, or they can continue their path of obstructionism and petulant political sniping. In the latter case, World War III will almost invariably be the result. The League of Nations crumbled in the face of Nazi Germany, thus failing to carry out its only real duty: prevent World War II. The United Nations seems determined to prove the old axiom, "the apple doesn't fall far from the tree."

In summary, if the United Nations doesn't start doing their job--their real job--a few dead civilians in an obscure tenement block in Lebanon are going to be among the very least of our worries.

You better be careful dude, the UN is going bring the security console down on you! If you piss them off to much, I’m telling you, they will write you a letter!
