It would have been at least marginally effective if they'd made applicants solve for one of the variables, but any seventh grader should be able to figure it out when both variables are provided. Since "01" is the international exchange number for the United States, and 269 is a Michigan area code, one must assume the "x10" is an extension, else the answer wouldn't make much sense.
We won't even discuss their grammar.

I can't actually read the formula so can't say for sure.
Agreed. I made an assumption that the second half of the formula reads:
(y^3-10^3), which, when combined with the somewhat more legible first half, would make the entire number: 01-269-762-6000 ext.10
Regardless, it's still not much of a test-- unless one dropped out of school sometime around the fifth grade.
Trust me, as a person who has to answer “Professional” support calls. This simple problem will weed out a significant portion of the applicants.
Where? The same place I'd find it, fool — at the other end of a web search.
