R.I.P. Astroworld
One of the signs you're getting old is that all the places fixed so clearly in your mind's eye from childhood have ceased to exist in reality. I can now add Astroworld to that list.
Even though it had turned into a thug park, I'll miss the place. The park and I are almost precisely the same age; it opened within a few weeks of the day I was born, and it figured prominently in my childhood and teen years. Fortunately, my fiancé and I went last year, (despite my whining about it), so at least I got to see the place one last time for nostalgia's sake.

Wow.. I can't believe they closed. I remember a lot of good times at Astroworld when I was growing up in Houston. I've been to a lot of theme parks since then, but I always remembered Astroworld fondly. Many theme parks now focus on the environment and not the rides. Environment is nice for one visit, but good, thrilling rides keep people coming back. I haven't been in years, but I it seemed that Astroworld always tried to keep coming up with exciting rides that were fun over and over again. Its a shame that they had to close such a fun park.
Goodbye Astroworld, and thanks for all the happy memories.
Astroworld closed. What a world, what a cruel world. I'll be happy to recall those dizzy memories of falling off the Greazed Lightning.
I have to agree. Though I hadn't been since My teen years, it is still sad to see it gone. Then again, from what I had heared about its marked decline from the days of Marvel MacFay (the original mascot for those who forgot) maybe it was a mercy killing. :( After Six Flags bought the park it seems like they just let it go down hill.
*fondly remembering the "Barrel o' Fun" ride...also known as the Spinning Room o' Puke.*
You loved every darn minute last year with the thugs, the middle schoolers, and wonderful company that you had with you!
