Expert Opinions

Do you know why Google, Yahoo, Microsoft, and other portal providers are competing? It's for profit, believe it or not! Yes, it's true! So say the Experts™:

"Ultimately, advertising business gravitates to the largest eyeball count," Kay said.

and

The stakes are high, according to Kay, since a portal with 100 percent of the market could could cripple competitors by directing online traffic elsewhere.

and
"If a portal could make fifty cents a month from those users, it would add up real quickly," Juliussen said.

Incredible. These masters of the blindingly obvious actually get paid to sit around and conduct "research" and then present common sense as if it were received wisdom. And it's probably more than I get paid.

I can't believe this kind of reporting. It's so senationalistic. "There is kind of a land-grab going on."
That just cracks me up. Obviously these guys haven't heard about capitalism, economics or supply and demand.

At least the report wasn't based on government sponsored research paid by us tax paying citizens, or I hope not.

It appears they have no concept of percentages either, since if someone controlled 100% of the market they would have no competitors...
