Clergy Clones

An independent film-maker went inside the Raelian cult to try and discredit them. The Raelians, you may remember, are the group who claimed to have successfully cloned a human in December of 2002. There was no subsequent proof of that claim forthcoming; logical, since they're a bunch of crackpots:

But the group really caught [the film-maker's] attention after he discovered that one of the Raelian commandments is to give 1 percent of your annual income to help Vorilhon deliver his message. Hashem says it was then that he suspected the group was a scam.

It was the one percent annual "donation" from members that got his attention. Add in the polygamy, UFO cultism, nudism, and wackjob of a leader, and the group is certainly way out there on the very end of the wacky scale.

Let's apply that standard elsewhere, shall we? Ten percent tithe; enforced celibacy; contraception forbidden; old man in stupid hat idolized by millions...

Looks to me like the Catholic church is a wacky cult, as well. But I've never argued otherwise.

*grins* Let's not forget the belief in immaculate conception and reptiles that can tempt us with fruit; or, being born with original sin. Not sure there is a more dangerous group when you take into account the horrors of the Spanish Inquisition and the Salem witch trials. *cackles with glee* Light the bonfires, I'm up for a roast! ;)
