More Equal Than Others

And the Houston police wonder why so many people have so little respect for them.

Disgusting.

This is why the police have to be watched just as closely as the criminals. They are a necessary evil of modern society, but like all necessary evils, they will quickly get out of hand if not regularly reined in and reminded of their subservient positions. Criminals create chaos; police create order. Too far towards either extreme is dangerous and undesirable. The trick lies in giving them just enough power to stem the tide of crime, but not enough power to tempt them towards abuse and corruption. A tricky balancing act, even with the best people in place. The Houston Police Department is staffed with far from the best people.

Yes, I realize that it's only two people out of hundreds. But this sort of thing happens over and over and over again with the HPD. I think it may be time to fire everyone from the chief down and start over. It is also, apparently, time to get a new psych eval process. They're obviously not finding the right people for the job in the first place.
