Boy! We Sure Do Hate Private Businesses

But love Criminals

Businesses that ask a job applicant about his or her criminal history during the hiring process could be fined and forced to pay the applicant up to $500 under a new law being considered by city leaders.

A Los Angeles City Council committee backed a plan Tuesday to penalize businesses that weed out applicants based on criminal convictions.

I'm all for giving someone a second chance when it comes to such things (I know that sounds crazy coming from a Cop), but I do think that an employer should be able to know if the person sitting in front of them has been convicted of multiple counts of theft, (sexual)assault, or other violent crimes. Let's face it, people make mistakes, and according to our judicial/penal system, they have "paid" for their crimes. However, if you have a long criminal history, you should not expect to get a job that doesn't involve asking someone if they want fries with that. Like one person in the article, I see a cottage industry springing up:

Councilwoman Nury Martinez also worried a proposed reward system for whistle blowers who complain about hiring practices at a company would encourage an environment of “bounty hunters.”

I arrested a guy for trafficking cocaine and he was on disability for ADHD. Do you think this guy and others like him will go out looking for a job? Or, will he go around to businesses filling out applications in hopes of getting turned down and then turning them in for the $500.00 reward? Like many of the "Discrimination" claims, the company will be guilty until proven guilty. A few years from now, they will be wondering why they can't attract new jobs to the city. I'm sure they will come to a logical conclusion to why that is, and I will grow wings and fly.

Any business which sends an employee into a federal building or a public school campus must submit a background check with a full criminal history of each employee. Who would send an employee into such places? Construction companies, repairmen of all types, IT techs, security, temp staffing, contract janitor services... The list is quite extensive, actually.

Once again the leftoids have failed to think it through and have consequently been snared in their own net. It's a hazard of possessing an I.Q. equivalent to that of a painted rock.
