What's that sound?!

Scary noises shut down Air Force base:

It was a scary scene at Kirtland Air Force Base Wednesday afternoon. Men in stactical gear and Humvees could be seen after phone calls were made to base security officials regarding an active shooter.

Around 3:15 p.m. the base lifted the lockdown, saying security personnel found no threat to the base. On Thursday, the base said the scare was sparked by someone popping heavy duty bubblewrap. Someone said they heard three loud pops.

Sure it sounds silly to you and me, but you gotta remember that most Air Force pogues spend their careers so far in the rear, they don't have a clue what gunfire sounds like. (Regular reader Rusty C. being a notable exception, of course.)

Officials with the base say the person who reported the loud bangs did the right thing.

I suppose so, if 'the right thing' is jumping like a little girl in a haunted house.
