The Left Is Eating Itself

Daniel Greenfield writing at Frontpage Magazine:

The Democratic Party has gone from feinting moderate before moving left to being overrun by swarms of lunatics organized around social media and funded by radical billionaires. They are convinced that they have a permanent mandate for total change backed by demographic transformation that will let them do anything they want...

The left is caught in a process of perpetual purges cloaked in demands for justice that shouldn’t have surprised anyone who was at all familiar with the French Revolution or the Bolshevik breakdown. The radicals can’t stop. That is what makes them radicals. And their creed of self-righteous extremism rejects any legal or rational norms leaving them with no resolution except outraged political annihilation.

Yesterday’s radicals become despised moderates to be hounded by the mobs they had once commanded. The Clintons stop being radicals and become symbols of the old regime they had undermined and helped bring down. And then the same fate befalls the man who unleashed the mob.

Radicals are at heart anarchists. They light fires just to watch things burn. In their twisted minds, everything is better if it's on fire. Mr Greenfield is correct: it will never be enough. Give them what they want and they'll get mad at you for giving it to them, then demand something even more radical. It's their nature.

The Left does not produce, it destroys. The most casual perusal of history will show that to be the truth, yet ignorant children in this country continue to fall for this simplest of political shell games every day. This is the end result of destroying first the public education system and then the university system: millions of kids with a swollen sense of entitlement and an utter lack of understanding about economics and government. That formula leads nowhere but self-destruction.

Let's hope we can slip Margaret Thatcher's metaphorical ratchet to the right in 2016. Because if we can't, things are going to get worse very quickly -- for America in particular, and thus for civilization as a whole.

If we cannot salvage the Republic, however, I offer you this single spark of schadenfreude: in Leftist revolutions, those who comprise the mob clamoring for change are the first to be shot. We on the Right are producers; those who would rule Utopia need us and they know it. We'll put our noses down and go back to our jobs. The arrogantly unskilled students and unemployed rabble at Occupy movements are a burden and a liability for them; the sooner disposed of the better. Maybe we'll get to watch the executions on television. I'll bring the popcorn.
