Prophetic Words

I have been re-reading Alexis de Tocqueville's "Democracy in America" and ran across a very interesting passage:

" What good is it to me, after all, if there is an authority always busy to see to the tranquil enjoyment of my pleasures and going ahead to brush all the dangers away from my path without giving me even the trouble to think about it, if that authority, which protects me from the smallest thorns on my journey, is also the absolute master of my liberty and of my life? If it monopolizes all activity and life to such an extent that all around it must languish when it languishes, sleep when it sleeps, and die when it dies?"

I think this paragraph states the whole political objective of the modern Democratic party. They will take care of you as long as you are willing to give up your liberty. Let them make all the hard descisions, and you just keep voting for them and they will take care of you cradle to grave. Obama said just as much when he created the "Julia" scenario. He chronicled the cradle to grave "help" a fictional woman could get from the federal government. Democracy today looks nothing like what Alex saw in the 1800's. He saw a Democracy that all citizens strived towards a betterment of the whole, now you have almost a majority that strive to get as much as they can from someone else's labor.
