Bad Move

Well, here we go:

The lawsuit filed Monday by victims of the Sandy Hook school shooting, seeking to hold liable the manufacturer of the Bushmaster AR-15 used in the massacre, will test the 2005 federal law designed to protect gun companies by using an exemption normally applied to car accident cases.

As I said last week, it's the favorite target of the clueless. Now all of my sympathy for the parents of the victims just evaporated, and I assure you I'm not alone in this matter.

That nutjob could have killed those kids with a sword or a homemade bomb or a sharpened fucking stick. He killed them because he was a psychotic, not because he had a gun. Trying to put a legitimate company out of business isn't going to bring back any dead kids and it's not going serve justice, because only innocent people will be punished. Those parents have allowed greedy lawyers to twist their grief to foul advantage; that makes it worse, not better.

I know laws do not have the same authority as they did a few years ago, but this country does have the "Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act". Sans Presidential "intervention" this lawsuit won't get much traction.
