A federal judge on Monday granted preliminary approval to a landmark deal that would compensate thousands of former NFL players for concussion-related claims.
Not sure how I feel about this issue. On the one hand, the players knew it was a risky and injury-prone job when they signed the contracts. On the other hand, the NFL makes UNGODLY amounts of money off them. Like, $10 billion annually ungodly. But on the third hand...
Seau committed suicide. Fuck him. If I commit suicide, my wife would not get the insurance claim nor my stock shares in my company.
As for Duerson:
Not adequate, huh? Sounds to me like y'all got used to cuttin' a fat hog before daddy Dave pissed it all away and now you're wanting someone else to pay for his bad business decision. Also, $2.2 million is far more money than most people in this country will see in their entire lifetimes. Fuck you too.

The settlement would be capped at $4 million on behalf of players diagnosed with traumatic brain injury after their deaths, such as San Diego star Junior Seau or Pro Bowler Dave Duerson. Both of their families, through lawyers, have expressed concerns about the settlement. Duerson died at age 50. A family lawyer has called their projected $2.2 million award to the family "not adequate."

As for Duerson:
Duerson owned three McDonald's restaurants in Louisville, Kentucky for six months, from late 1994 to April 1995. He purchased the majority interest in Fair Oaks Farms (formerly Brooks Sausage Company) in 1995. Duerson grew the company from $24M revenue to over $63.5M in six years. He sold his stake in the company in 2002 and started Duerson Foods, but that company was forced into receivership in 2006 and most of its assets were auctioned off.
