Green Wall of Idiots

Tilting at windmills, eco-nazi style:

The clock is ticking for the collaborative creation of a living green wall to span nearly 5,000 miles across the African continent, designed to slow or even stop the relentless spread of desertification. The scope of this unique organic building project is unprecedented, as is its urgency.

I'll tell you what else is unprecedented: the incredible hubris of people who think they have the right and the power to decide how the planet's ecology develops. The arrogance of these people is so embarrassingly over-the-top, it's almost childlike in nature. Remember when you were a kid and you thought if you put a plastic bag over your sandcastle that you'd spent hours working on, maybe that rainstorm wouldn't destroy it? Same thing.

How people like these even make it to nominal adulthood, let alone wield enough influence to undertake such a monumentally idiotic and pointless project, is quite beyond me. Think of how many power plants and water treatment facilities could be built in Africa for the money they're spending planting trees in a futile attempt to stop something that is as inevitable as the tides.

Stupid. Just fucking stupid.
