So it Begins
Colo. counties to decide on secession
Essentially the northern counties of Colorado are tired of the "progressive" policies of the major metropolitan areas of the state and want to form a 51st state that is more in line with their beliefs. Will it happen? Probably not. If passed, then the state legislature of Colorado has to vote for it, and then the Federal Government has to vote for it. It is a LOOOOOONNG process and there are many hoops that will have to be jumped through.
What this is really showing is a growing dissatisfaction with the ever growing meddling of State and Federal government. What people want from government is for it to maintain a safe place to live and work. Safe streets, roads, and neighborhoods. The rest is fluff and meddling by people who think they know better. Yes, yes, someone will point to Program X and say, "well what about this? It helps people, or makes things better" and in a sense it may do that in a round about way, but could it not be done better and faster at a local level by volunteers, instead of sending trillions off to some faraway land that keeps over half and then sends some back and demands a thank you for letting you have some of your own money to spend as you see fit. Habitat for humanity does a better job than Public housing. Food banks, shelters, private schools, Toys for Tots, the list is endless in non-profit programs that do a better job for less money than Federal, state and local governments.

As you say, I suspect we'll see more of this over the next few years. Once the real cost of the disaster known as Obamacare becomes apparent to all but the densest of wild-eyed leftists and begins ripping the economy to shreds, the dissatisfaction with government will start to snowball. The more I think on it, the more I become convinced that we are in the opening stages of the Second American Civil War. This one, however, will not be fought with guns, it will be waged with dollars and markets and massive business migrations from the blue states to the red states.
Ironically, every time Obama attacks Big Oil, he helps them. There's a huge boom in west Texas right now, with places like Midland and Odessa experiencing 300% annual growth rates due to land-based drilling. The wife of a friend works for Apache Oil, one of the major exploration and distribution interests in that market. They recently sold all of their offshore assets, (literally, as in rigs and ships), and put all that capital that Obama won't let them spend on the water into west Texas exploration and drilling. The derricks are popping up like weeds out there, and you can't swing a dead cat in Houston without hitting an out-of-state car parked next to a tower crane.
Keep pushing socialism, Donks! It's just making things all the better for those of in states where we still work for a living. Oh, and about that Obamacare thing... just no. Fine me.
It's about time the proverbial chickens come home to roost. Actions have consequences, and the Liberals have been fairly adept at kicking that can down the road. Looks like they have run out of kicks.
