Star Trek Continues

Season Four, Episode 01.

Not bad, actually. The actors have gone to great lengths to imitate the mannerisms of the originals, which helps sell it. The sets and special effects are likewise quite impressive.

Very nicely done. Met Mignogna at DragonCon back in September, he is a riot when he goes into over exaggerated Shatner impersonation mode. I didn't get a chance to see any of they stuff they were screening though and forgot about it so glad you posted this. Amazing work. It was so cool they they even managed to replicate the lighting and the way the scenes were shot on the original series. I had several moments when I almost thought I was looking a shot from the old show.

Indeed. If you squint a bit, there are several scenes where he looks and moves exactly like a young Shatner. Kinda spooky.

I find projects like this highly encouraging, because they are the vanguard of the death march for Hollywood and their century-long stranglehold on the entertainment industry. Much as the internet has already marginalized snail mail, newspapers and music stores, Hollywood will increasingly fall by the wayside in the face of competition from the online juggernaut of creativity. When there are a thousand original shows to choose from, the latest blockbuster movie or network cop opera will appear even less attractive -- if that's possible, at this point.

And while I'm within shootin' range of the subject: Cop operas... just FUCKING STOP already. Geezus, enough is enough. It's past the point of embarrassment. It's like that drunk great uncle at the Christmas party who won't stop talking about The War and how he single-handedly defeated half the fucking Nazi army. Just stop. Seriously. Before we have to put you into rehab.

Anyway, Hollywood's days of derivative plots, effects porn, and summer cash grabs are coming to an end -- and we should all be thankful for that.
