Reinventing Redmond
You probably noticed that Microsoft has acquired Nokia's devices division for the princely sum of seven billion dollars. Ballmer stated at the same time he announced his pending retirement that Microsoft's new direction will be as a device provider, diverging from their historical roots as a software developer and publisher. Combine this new business direction with the fact that Microsoft has not yet announced their succession plan for the big chair, and I find it very interesting that the current CEO of Nokia is Stephen Elop, who formerly headed up the Business Division at Microsoft. Hrm...

Looks like Microsoft trying to be Apple to me. Alternately, no (or very few) mobile phone companies would run the MS mobile OS willingly so Microsoft buys a mobile phone company that they can FORCE to run their OS.
