I really don't get the Liberal press. Surely they understand that the 2nd Amendment is the linch-pin to the Bill of Rights, and once that Amendment is abolished, the rest will fall, the 1st Amendment to be, if not next, 3rd to go? And once the 1st Amendment is gone, the Liberal Press will join the Gun Owners in the Gulag.
And from our jail cells, we can say: "See, I told you so."
You are operating from the assumption that "Progressives" acknowledge the true, selfish nature of humanity. They do not. They believe -- truly BELIEVE -- in altruism as an intrinsic attribute of human beings. All people are good at heart; evil is a product of environment.
You can easily recognize these deluded individuals in a totalitarian government: they're the ones with a bewildered look in their eyes as they're tied to the post in front of the firing squad.
I think the official term for those people was "useful idiots". :)

Curmudgeon - I am a bit confused. Your statement seems to imply that liberals have some capacity for foresight, which is not supported by the available evidence. If they could understand the long-term consequences of their policies, they would immediately cease to be liberals.
