As the Constitutional Convention ended in September of 1787, a woman on the street inquired of Ben Franklin as to what type of government they had created for the newly formed nation of the United States of America. Franklin replied, "A republic, if you can keep it."
Turns out we could not, and we haven't.
Tonight, November the 6th of the year 2012, the Republic ceased to exist. This is now a socialist country, ruled by a man who is quite possibly not a natural-born citizen and who was re-elected after the worst Presidential performance in the history of the nation. De Tocqueville tried to warn us, but we did not listen. Those who vote themselves largess while contributing nothing have won. But they'll find little solace in their victory as the country flies apart at the seams over the coming decades.
Never again will I underestimate the willful stupidity and sense of entitlement of the people who inhabit places like Ohio, Wisconsin, and Pennsylvania. They have doubled-down on failure, and that can never be forgiven or forgotten. Not ever.
But my forgiveness or lack thereof is irrelevant, because the damage is done; the last chance to control and mitigate it has passed us by. We are now on an equal footing with the worst political and economic disasters of contemporary Europe. We are firmly committed to the path of desolation and failure. If I believed in a God, I would asked him to help us. But we'll find no solace there, I'm afraid.
A few predictions for the coming years:
1) Obama will appoint at least two and possibly three very left-wing justices to the Supreme Court. They will spend the ensuing decades systemically deconstructing the Constitution. Their first goal will be to put the killing dagger into the Tenth Amendment. Their next, the Second.
2) Expect that liberal Court to attempt to nullify the Twenty-Second Amendment before the end of Obama's second term. Is that legal? Do they have that power? No, not under the Constitution. But when has that mattered to King Barry or his Leftist handlers? Will they succeed? I don't know, but you can bet they'll give it their best try.
3) War. At the very least, a Battle Royal in the Middle East. The Arab powers-in-waiting surrounding Israel will smell this election as chum in the water. America is weak and ineffective; the time to attack is now. It's gonna get ugly, and fast. And if we get very unlucky, we'll see the Second American Civil War. Which segues into...
4) Secession. This is the solitary bright point, if you want to call it that. Because if you think King Barry has damaged the economy in his first four years, you ain't seen nothing yet. When the market crashes (it will) and the energy sector enters a nose-dive (he'll see to it), the State governments of places like Texas which still have functional and non-unionized economies will begin grumbling -- and acting -- in earnest. I sincerely hope it's a peaceable parting of the ways, but divorces have a habit of becoming messy.
5) China. Remember how Barry marginalized the Navy in the debates? How he said it needs to go down in size, not up? Guess which direction China's navy is heading.
In 1986, I signed on the dotted line and I swore the Oath. I did that because I believed in my country, in the United States of America. If asked to swear that Oath today, I would refuse.
Interesting times. I truly wish it were otherwise.
Prepare.

I concur with Jarhead. This morning I have lost any faith or respect I have for this country. Plato's "ignorant voters" have apparently reached a majority. History repeats itself once again. My daughter is in a Marine JROTC in high school, but even before now I had been struggling with whether I would ever want one of my kids to sign on the dotted line, even for the US Marines, whom I hold in such high regard. I can say today I would, at a minimum, discourage my kids from joining the military. They would find themselves supporting the wrong side at this stage.
Be carefull what you wish for, you just might get it.
Logic shows us that this election was facilitated by the Mainstream Media primarily, the willing sycophants who think that they will still be permitted to "report the news" after socialists completely take over (an absolutely incorrect assumption), and secondarily by the Republican infighting and inablilty to field anything more than a milquetoast candidate.
What happened on Tuesday is the logical conclusion. Was there voter fraud? Most certainly, but on a grand scale it was the unwashed masses expecting, nay, demanding that the rich foot the bill.
Forget Spanish, teach Chinese to your children. They are going to need it.
