Star Pirate

While en route to Rhodes in 75 BC, Julius Caesar -- not yet ruler of the known world, but already a powerful man -- was captured by pirates. He was insulted that they planned to demand a ransom of only twenty talents, and insisted they demand fifty. Some accounts indicate that he became quite friendly with the pirates during his captivity. If so, it was simply a ruse to put them off their guard, because after the ransom was paid and he was released, Caesar returned to their hideout with some legionnaires in tow and crucified the lot of them.
