Leaving Okinawa
The long-anticipated shutdown of Okinawa as a U.S. military base has begun. Roughly half of the Marines permanently stationed on the island are moving, either to Guam or to Hawaii.
Futenma will apparently remain open for now. I'm assuming most of the relocated jarheads are from the rotational deployment infantry bases strung along the northern half of the island. Several contributors to this blog, myself included, have spent time at Camp Hansen and the adjacent dive town of Kinville, where we swilled our fair share (or more) of mojo and snogged with the Flip "courtesy girls." Great memories, but the world moves on.

That is a good start. I, as well, remember the crazy times in the far east, but it is about time we let other countries provide for their own defense. I am just wondering when we are going to pull out of Europe? Let those bunch of Socialists see how the ol' Government economies runs when you pull a few billion yankee dollars out of it.
We're Americans, dammit! We don't pull out. We also don't use protection either.
You should be proud!
