What to do?

Ok, I have played a few MMORPG's and have left a few, I am now looking for a good Sci-Fi based one, maybe set in space. Swinging a battle ax is fun and all, but this Sci-Fi junky needs to get his space geek on. The reviews and write ups are all the same. Love it/ hate it, players all suck, blah blah blah. I get it. People can be jerks when they can be anonymous, and I bet it is that way on every online game(I know it is on the ones I have played on). I was also looking to get on one we all could play without having to actually see you in person (I'm sure all of you are very old and ugly and I don't want be reminded of how old and ugly I am) I was looking at EVE, but some others seem along the lines I'm looking for. Any suggestions on either topic?

I think EVE Online is your best choice. Nothing else comes close for hard sci-fi atmosphere, and the game play requires intelligence, research and planning. Just learning to build ships could occupy an entire book, (and several have in fact been written).

Having said that, it's also accessible. You can play quite contentedly in high security space, or venture occasionally into low-sec for ratting, or even (if you're feeling suicidal) challenge the huge player pirate alliances which control large swaths of null sec and wormhole space. Whether you're a shooter, an industrialist, a miner, an explorer or a trader, there's something for you in EVE. And the visceral imagery and feel of the universe is unparalleled.

If you decide you want to get into it, drop me an email or just message me in-game as Kance Tzu. I've been playing for years now and will be glad to answer questions and meet up for some 'ratting or mining. I generally hang out near the Gallente/Amarr border region, right on the edge of low-sec space.

Or you could try SWToR, if you'd prefer to push the "swing lightsaber" button instead of the "swing axe" button.

I miss Traveller, so if EVE Online is anything like that, I may check into it.

Eve is the closest thing to Traveler you will find online. In some respects it is eerily similar.
