Enforce the law

Except when told not to

Arizona Sheriff Joe Arpaio says he will continue his controversial "crime suppression operations" despite a Department of Homeland Security decision to strip him of authority to arrest suspected illegal immigrants based solely on their immigration status, the East Valley Tribune reports.

This Sheriff is probably enforcing the immigration laws for the wrong reasons, I don't know, I can't read his mind and do not know him personally. He is, however, enforcing the law of the land. If you come here illegally you are breaking the law and should be detained and removed from the country. It has been determined by vote and passed that their are certain procedures to come to this country, to fail to follow these rules is a violation of the law.

I think this is where we have lost our way. We need to determine if we are a country of laws, or a country of exceptions to the laws. Illegal immigrants, Roman Polanski, the Black panthers in Philadelphia, and numerous other examples where the law has NOT been enforced or people are clamoring for it to be dismissed because of who they are. Justice is supposed to be blind, not peeking out from under the blindfold to see if you are with the correct political affiliation.

On immigration. I am not against it, as a matter of fact we should allow more from countries not associated with terrorism. But they should come here legally. Fill out the paperwork and do it right. The gangs take advantage of the "undocumented" aliens in our country and so do unscrupulous businesses. Enforce our laws and change immigration quotas, but enforce our laws first and foremost. If law is not applied fairly then you end up with more lawlessness.
