What The ?!?

The American Legion Strongly Opposed to President's Plan to Charge Wounded Heroes for Treatment

I am not sure what the president hopes to accomplish with this besides alienating a large portion of the population. Essentially, the veteran and his employers insurance (after military service and privately employed) would be responsible for some of the medical costs from injuries incurred while on active duty. It is expected to save 540 million dollars.
Now I don't care how you feel about the military, as they are one of the few branches of government that actually serves a real purpose ( yes they spend too much money on projects that should be scrapped (the Osprey for one)), but they provide a service that is vital to the future of our way of life. To require someone with service connected injuries to pay out of pocket for the treatment of those injuries is just wrong on way to many levels.
I am hoping that there is more to this, but I have yet to find any other articles discussing it from another angle. The thinking behind this just doesn't seem reasonable.
