Moderate muslims being moderate

This is what our allies do to their own populace. Imagine what they would do to people from other countries if they could or were in charge of people from other religions.

CAIRO (AP) - A 75-year-old widow in Saudi Arabia has been sentenced to 40 lashes and four months in jail for mingling with two young men who are not close relatives, drawing new criticism for the kingdom's ultraconservative religious police and judiciary.

The woman's lawyer told The Associated Press on Monday that he would appeal the verdict against Khamisa Sawadi, who is Syrian but was married to a Saudi. The attorney, Abdel Rahman al-Lahem, said the verdict issued March 3 also demands that Sawadi be deported after serving her sentence.

What did this 75 year old woman do that was so heinous to rate such a punishment?

The newspaper Al-Watan said the woman met with the two 24-year-old men last April after she asked them to bring her five loaves of bread at her home in al-Chamil, a city north of the capital, Riyadh.

Her lawyer gives me a glimmer of hope. There is a story I heard about a ruler in China that was a stickler for discipline. He was so strict that the punishment for every infraction was death.
Two soldiers were sitting around a fire and one asked the other what was the punishment for rebellion. "Death" said the other. Then he asked what was the punishment for being late? "Death" the second soldier said again. The first one then said "well, lets go be late." The moral is that a people will become rebellious if the government, or in this case, the religion is too oppressive. Unless of course it is more like a cult and they have drank the cool-aid. His statements make me believe that things are coming to a head soon, and Islam will either "be late" or drink the cool-aid.
