Recessives

A study out of Rice University came to an interesting conclusion:

Study: calm people are liberal, skittish are conservative

Calm people tend to be liberals, while those who react strongly to sudden noises and threatening images tend to be political conservatives, says a study in the U.S. journal Science today.

I have no doubt at all that this is true. From an evolutionary perspective, liberals are the sociological equivalent of an appendix. In the bare subsistence days of our ancestors, the passive ones were the first to be eaten by lions. They were the weak members of the tribe, unable to survive the rigors of their beloved Nature. They are a genetic dead-end and can only thrive in safe, pacified societies -- which are made that way by the "skittish" conservatives.

As the article linked in the preceding post shows, the nature/nurture argument is dead. Nature wins. The irony is that liberalism, with its characteristic passivity and poor survival qualities, is the result of a recessive gene -- much like Down's Syndrome, in fact. Liberals can no more stop being mush-minded than retards can stop being retarded. It really isn't their fault, poor things. Maybe I should let them carry out my groceries for me. I can probably even bring myself to say some nice, quiet, soothing words to them and be rewarded with a big smile. I can leave knowing that I've made their day with just some simple attention.
