New Dune
Deja vu all over again:
Heard that one before.
Uhh... What?
While I admit that Dune and global warming "theory" have something in common -- they're both science fiction -- I'd struggle mightily to find any other connection. But leave it to the vapid drones in the press; they can connect global warming to Britney Spears' lack of panties if they really try, I'm quite sure.
Although there were doubts about whether Paramount would obtain the rights to Frank Herbert's science fiction classic Dune, it does look as if a big budget movie with Peter Berg directing is going ahead after all.
Most promising of all is that the producers are apparently looking for writers to create a faithful adaptation of Dune.
Heard that one before.
[The] movie's producers believe the theme of finite ecological resources is timely given the increasing threat of global warming.

Well, it can't be any worse than that abortion the Sci-Fi channel put out a few years back. I have seen better acting on Spanish soap opras.
With the exception of William Hurt, you are correct that the acting was certainly not up to big screen standards. The script, however, was much more faithful to the book. I actually bought it on DVD for that reason. I did not, however, like the follow-up Children of Dune mini-series very much at all.
I have to agree that William Hurt did ok, and that the script was closer to the book. I don't know where they dug up the rest of these bad actors though.
