Tesla goes green...and fast
The first of the long-awaited and much-lauded Tesla Roadsters is rolling off the assembly line as I write this. After a lot of delays, a huge internal shake-up and a couple price increases, the company will finally start delivering Roadsters to customers.
The CEO is quick to point out that this is "the only zero emission electric vehicle in production today," which is pretty much a big lie. There are lots of people making electric vehicles in America. But it is the only one with a top speed of 125 mph.
Though the $100,000 price tag is a bit steep, and Tesla will only be able to produce one or two cars a week (at least at first), 900 people have already reserved a Roadster. Included in that list are Dustin Hoffman, George Clooney, and Arnold Schwarzenegger.
With these I always have to ask; where does the electricity come from? Good thoughts and rainbows? Although, you have to admit it is a cool looking car and 125 mph out of an electric engine is pretty awesome.

Based on the Lotus Elise. Love the way those new Lotuses look, but they're still British, which means leaky seals and expensive parts for the all-too-frequent repairs. I betcha they can even make an electric version leak oil.
Tesla the first 125mph EV? I don't think so ;o)
George Clooney bought himself a Tango last year. It's an odd looking tall narrow electric car - but it has a top speed of 150mph and 0-60mph in 4 seconds.

That Tango's got the goofiness award wrapped up for sure, but I wouldn't drive 150mph in that thing on a bet. =o)
I heard they actually installed an oilpan on it just for that, you have to put oil in every 3000 miles and it can be set for small leak, spewing oily smoke down road leak, and Exxon Valdez.
BTW 150 in a Tango? Might as well write the suicide note before leaving the house.
