Weapon of Mass Devaluation

Foiled:

Police said Kelvin Ethelbert Roberts, 28, botched his plans to rob a Cherryville convenience store by accidentally shooting his right foot.

According to an arrest warrant, Roberts dropped a .45-caliber handgun in front of Gasland USA on Sunday. The gun hit the ground and went off, a bullet striking Roberts in the foot.

What a maroon.

Roberts faces several charges that include attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon and possession of a weapon of mass destruction. Police said the handgun had been altered to fire .410 shotgun shells.

Okay, folks... let's all just step back and take a deep breath, shall we? By that standard, a sawed-off shotgun is more dangerous than a neutron bomb. Ridiculous hyperbole does nothing to serve the purpose of the law; worse, it deflates the importance and impact of the original intent.

What's next? Do I have to register our basset hound as an exotic carnivore and get a special license?

Straight to StupidPrison™ for everyone in this story -- especially the prosecutor who filed such an idiotic charge.

I imagine that Taurus firearms will be interested in this. They introduced a new revolver last year named "the Judge" that is chambered specifically to use either 410 shotshells or 45 long colt cartridges. Available at any gun show as we speak. LOL
