I think I will have to go get this book as well. From what I read so far it seems that he hypothesises that the Liberal elite in this country have more to do with Fascism than the often mis-labeled conservative. I can almost see that.
I grabbed this from Amazon. iys a quote from the review and synopsis of the book.
Contrary to what most people think, the Nazis were ardent socialists (hence the term “National socialism”). They believed in free health care and guaranteed jobs. They confiscated inherited wealth and spent vast sums on public education. They purged the church from public policy, promoted a new form of pagan spirituality, and inserted the authority of the state into every nook and cranny of daily life. The Nazis declared war on smoking, supported abortion, euthanasia, and gun control. They loathed the free market, provided generous pensions for the elderly, and maintained a strict racial quota system in their universities—where campus speech codes were all the rage. The Nazis led the world in organic farming and alternative medicine. Hitler was a strict vegetarian, and Himmler was an animal rights activist.
It's all just two faces of the same Collectivist ideal.
Look and Communist Russia vs Nazi Germany. One country dedicated to the proposition that an individual man has no rights, that the collective will the collective good is everything. The individual held as evil, the masses as God. No motive or virtue permitted except that of service to the proletariat.
The other country dedicated to the proposition that an individual man has no rights, that the State is all. The individual held as evil, the race as God.
Two sides of the same coin: Heads? Collectivism. Tails? Collectivism. Make your choice. Give up your soul to a council or give it up to a leader. But give it up. For the good of the people, for the good of world peace, for the good of the environment, for the good of true equality, for the good of the children.
Like Jonathan Swift, where children are concerned I firmly believe that "whether stewed, roasted, baked, or boiled... they will equally serve in a fricassee or a ragout." I am therefore immune, as should be all true conservatives, to the "good of the children" political whip.
