You've no doubt heard about the British volunteer teacher in Sudan who asked her (Muslim) students what they wanted to name their class mascot teddy bear. They named it Mohammad. So the Sudanese "government" jailed the teacher for blasphemy against Islam and threatened her with 40 lashes.

Sudan protesters: Execute teacher

Hundreds of angry protesters, some waving ceremonial swords from trucks equipped with loud speakers, gathered Friday outside the presidential palace to denounce a teacher whose class named a teddy bear "Mohammed" -- some calling for her execution.

There was a time, not so very long ago, when the British Empire would have quite calmly -- and ever-so-politely -- sent an entire regiment of the Queen's Army, embarked aboard a flotilla of Her Majesty's Ships, to help the Sudanese leaders see reason. That time, alas, is past.

Now the most enlightened, liberal and humane societies in the world regularly bow and scrape and beg in front every tin pot, megalomaniacal, half-baked, cult-driven thugocracy on the planet.

Islam has been given every opportunity to prove itself rational and modern. Instead, it has chosen to do nothing but throw tantrums, pee on the carpet, and generally act like a rotten, undisciplined three year-old with a bad case of the "wants." Enough.

Spare the rod, spoil the child.

They may choose to act as if they don't understand "please" and "thank you," but I can assure you they will not be able to ignore a preparatory cruise missile bombardment followed by a Marine Landing Force.

It's past time we stopped asking and started instructing. To paraphrase the Great Bard: That if requiring fail, we will compel.
