Don't Shop at Wal-Mart

I'm certainly no Wal-Mart hating, anti-capitalist hippie. Quite the opposite, in fact. But I will not be shopping at Wal-mart any more after reading this article.

I don't buy all their legalese mumbo-jumbo about following the provisions of the plan and "protecting other employees." In my line of work, I deal with subrogation and indemnity clauses all the time, and I can tell you that companies only pay attention to them when it is in their favor to do so. Otherwise, they turtle-up and play dumb. Corporate contract lawyers have made it so I have to spend days reading and re-reading contracts just to weed out all the garbage they seed into it.

Apparently, some idiot exec thought it would be a good idea if they were to take settlement money from a crippled employee. An amount of money which means less than nothing to a corporation of their size, but which might help support her now that she can't work.

Great PR work, guys! What's your next trick? Dipping live puppies in boiling oil?

Capitalism is the best economic system ever invented, but the way unethical people will abuse it sometimes nauseates me.
