Even this little "l" liberal is astounded by this annoucement. Albert will soon by cannonized by the church as a living Saint. I think that in fifty years people will be comparing the awarding of the peace prize to Gore to the awarding of the peace prize to Frank Kellog in 1929. If one wants to see something shocking, check out the list of nominees in years past. Included in the names are two guys named Hitler and Stalin.
It's worse than that: at least the Kellogg-Briand Pact was an honest, if extremely naive and misguided, effort. There's nothing honest about Albert Gore. He's using the global warming movement to line his own pockets and create political capital for himself.
From such a perspective, however, I guess the award is somewhat appropriate; since intellectual dishonesty is inherent in anthropogenic global warming "theory", and he certainly qualifies as the high priest.
The Nobel Peace Prize officially became irredemably and unquestionably meaningless when it was awarded in 1994 to life long terrorist and key planner of the Black September organization's murder of 11 Israeli athletes at the 1972 Summer Olympics, Yasser Arafat.
