Senatorial Smoke and Mirrors

Obviously:

The US Senate voted to limit debate on legislation to tighten ethics

If you've not been keeping up with this farce, it's a Vaudeville act by the Democratic Congress to convince "The People" of their unmatched virtue in the face of vile Republican greed. In addition to being born ridiculous, it's utterly toothless. All of the proposed "reforms" assume that members of Congress will advertise their ill intentions to the entire world before acting on them -- which is self-evidently not the way corruption works.

The bill will be shot down by Bush as soon as it crosses his desk. Which, of course, is what it's really all about: making George W. Bush look like an ogre.

Such brilliant back-room maneuvering. It has all the political subtlety of a naked, one-eyed gimp with Tourette's trying to sing the Star-Spangled Banner -- and about as much chance of success.

They're like a broken record. A broken Bob Dylan record. If the United States Congress has ever produced a less effective, more politically naïve pair of "leaders" than Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, we must have destroyed the records. The Dunce-tastic Duo are doing a fantastic job of making Jimmy Carter look like the paragon of Democratic achievement.

Keep up the good work!

I wouldn't be so sure on that Bush veto. The Prez has only seen three bills he has not liked and two of them were regarding stem-cell research. Six and one half years and 3 vetoes. The legislative branch of our government is adapt at talking about ethics, making rules about ethics and then promptly breaking the rules about ethics. It is a great scam if you can get into it.
