Missed him by that much...

Wired:

A 32-year-old Winston-Salem man was critically injured yesterday when he caused a transformer to explode...

Police said that Joseph Shane Stewart broke into the substation and was taking copper ground wiring from the transformers.

Officer Brad Mullins of the Winston-Salem Police Department said he was in Old Salem when he heard an explosion. When Mullins got to the substation, he saw Stewart hanging from a wire about 20 feet off the ground. Stewart fell before fire and rescue personnel arrived.

Unfortunately, it looks like he's going to live.

However, we're going to award this entry a Darwin label in spite of Mr. Stewart's imminent survival, in hopes that he may yet fulfill his obligation to the human gene pool. Try, try, try again, Mr. Stewart...

(Hat-tip to Steve D.)
