A panel has found that astronauts were allowed to fly on at least two occasions despite warnings they were so drunk they posed a flight risk, sources familiar with the panel's report said Thursday.
Aviation Week also reported that the independent panel set up by NASA to study astronaut health issues found evidence of "heavy use of alcohol" before launch...
Sounds bad, yes? But let's look at the facts:
1) 50% catastrophic loss rate in the program
2) All hands lost in last two "incidents"
3) Death by incineration
4) Job description: leave atmosphere via being strapped onto a couple million pounds of highly combustible elements
5) Everyone in charge works for the government

I guess in some strange way this almost makes me qualified to be an astronaut. I abuse alcohol and have driven cross country in a diaper in an attempt to do gross bodily harm to a romantic rival. Where do I sign.
Hell give me the whole bottle and I'll fly that damn thing!
