R.I.P. - Gerald Ford

President Gerald R. Ford has died. Long live the Gerald R. Ford.

It's about to drive the lefties batty that Congress proposed to name the CVN-78 after Ford. Their claim that he didn't distinguish himself as a Naval officer is, as usual, a bunch of hooey:

Gerald R. Ford was commissioned in the Naval Reserve in 1942 and served valiantly at sea on the U.S.S. Monterey (CVL-26) during World War II, taking part in major operations in the Pacific, including at Makin Island, Kwajalein, Truk, Saipan, and the Philippine Sea.

Gerald R. Ford received 9 engagement stars and 2 bronze stars for his service in the Navy during World War II.

So he earned two Bronze Stars and distinguished himself as an officer aboard an escort carrier in close quarters combat with the enemy. Then he served as a United States President. If those aren't sufficient qualifications, I can't imagine what would qualify one for the honor.

And just for the record, that USS America idea is idiotic--as are most ideas that come out of veterans' organizations.
