The Alchemist

If you are a person who reads fantasy and science fiction and I asked you to guess who painted the scene below, there's a very high probability that you'd say The Brothers Hildebrandt. Nope. It's by Joseph Wright, an 18th century Age of Enlightenment painter, whose work strongly influenced the Hildebrandts' famous style which graced the covers of so many fantasy books in the 1970s and '80s.
