Military Spending

Two things really leaped out at me:

1) The fantastic amounts of money that France and Russia spent on their military forces in the 19th century was utterly wasted, because they both sucked ass on a battlefield. Especially France -- I had no idea they spent that much money in that time period, even with the naval race against England. I can only assume they were stockpiling white cloth in unprecedented quantities.

2) When the United States gets involved in a hot war, we spend more than the rest of the world put together. That's what Yamamoto tried to warn Tojo and the Army junta about, but they ignored him and paid the price for their ignorance.
