Five Hundred

Today marks the 500th anniversary of Martin Luther sending his Ninety-Five Theses to the Archbishop of Mainz and (possibly apocryphal) nailing them to the door of the church in Wittenberg. This is widely acknowledged by historians as the trigger for the Protestant Reformation.

Protestant or Catholic, religious or not, no one can ignore the fact that the last 500 years have fundamentally altered Western society and thereby the entire world. Persecution of Protestants would drive them out of Europe to the New World, where they laid the foundation for the greatest nation in history.
