FirePower Reborn
Time-lapse video of a complete rebuild of a Chrysler Firepower engine, the first generation "hemi" from the early 1950s.
Interesting fact: the hemispherical combustion chamber was originally developed by Chrysler for a V-16 engine intended to replace Pratt & Whitney radial engines in P-47 Thunderbolts. The prototype -- the first "hemi" engine -- flew in a P-47 test plane in 1945, but the project was abandoned by the military with the onset of the jet age. Chrysler used the research and development data from that project to design the Firepower engine.
