Overreact much?

American sailors in Japan starting Monday aren't allowed to leave their bases and alcohol has been banned after a drunk-driving case on Okinawa.

Welcome to the politically correct version of the U.S. military. They're saying the ban on alcohol consumption on Okinawa is "indefinite." This will not end well.

"These measures are not taken lightly," said Rear Adm. Matthew Carter, commander of Naval Forces Japan. "For decades, we have enjoyed a strong relationship with the people of Japan. It is imperative that each sailor understand how our actions affect that relationship, and the U.S.-Japan alliance as a whole."

With the Japs proper, certainly. But the Okinawans aren't Japanese, except in the very loose sense that Okinawa is a prefecture of Japan as allowed by the United States under the peace treaty after the war. The natives of Okinawa are self-professed pacifists and didn't even put up a fight against the Japs when they occupied the place during World War II. They're also hypocrites, as they will happily work on U.S. military bases but step outside the gate on their lunch break to carry protest signs railing against the base providing them with a living. After being deployed there four times in the '80s and '90s, I started to understand why the Japanese forced thousands of Okinawans to jump to their deaths from seaside cliffs.
