Real Steampunk
This was a real invention called Steam Man, created by a Newark machinist and patented in 1868. It was intended as a self-contained replacement for carriage horses. The automaton was powered by a coal-fired boiler and utilized complex mechanical legs for propulsion. Obviously there were problems and the idea never took off, but you have to admit that the thought of streets filled with carriages pulled by steam-powered robots is fascinating. Piclick for more.
