Sanity on the Left? Whaaaa?
Believe it or not, this was written by a Lefty journalist for the notorious Left-wing internet rag Vox:
Jim Geraghty of National Review talks about this apparent bout of sanity from a well-known Lefty here.
Trickle-down economics works. Low taxes, minimal government, right-to-work... it all combines to improve living conditions and net worth across all strata of society. I suspect that many of the brighter boys on the Left know this, even if they won't admit to it publicly. What they can't stomach, however, is the fact that the secret sauce to make it all work is social conservatism. It's the grease that lubricates the moving parts and turns economic policy into economic success. That is what they cannot abide. It just scratches them raw and drops them into a flea bath, with all of the resultant snarling and snapping you'd expect in such a situation.
I'm sure Mr Yglesias' temporary flirtation with rational analysis will end as quickly as it began, if for no other reason than the vicious beating he'll receive from the pack of animals who call themselves Democrats in modern America. If you want to leave the Right, we'll happily let you do so; you're not wanted if you don't want to be here. Try to leave the Left and they'll assassinate your character on your way out the door. Evil very often begins with pettiness.
"Obviously, you can’t lay the credit (or blame) for a state’s economic success or failure at the shoes of a single person. But Perry is a leading member of a larger Texas conservative movement that has been politically dominant in the state for a long time and has clearly shaped the situation in important ways. Due to Perry’s long tenure in office, Texas public policy very much reflects his values — a light regulatory touch, low taxes, and spending that’s focused on infrastructure rather than social assistance. And it’s more or less achieved what it’s supposed to achieve: rapid job growth."

"Trickle-down economics" is the label of the left. It implies that benefits are being provided to the top members of the economy and the rest of us are left with their scraps. I avoid using the term because it plays into their narrative of envy.
Generally I prefer to use the term "supply-side economics", as that term emphasizes the overall, general benefits that are enjoyed by everyone. The one simple fact that the left cannot avoid is that lower-priced goods have a greater impact on raising the standard of living for the poor than any "social justice" redistribution program or increase in the minimum wage ever could.
You correct. Supply-side is a more appropriate term. Not that the average lefty understands enough economics to balance a check book, so it's all Greek to them.
