In Their Cups

Clueless in New Yahwk:

New York City will move to the forefront of a growing environmental trend by banning food establishments from using plastic foam containers starting this summer, Mayor Bill de Blasio's administration announced Thursday.

"These products cause real environmental harm and have no place in New York City," said de Blasio in a statement announcing the ban. "We have better options, better alternatives, and if more cities across the country follow our lead and institute similar bans, those alternatives will soon become more plentiful and will cost less."

Such as...? Note that the article and Bill Gazes-At-Police-Backsides didn't bother to spell out these alternatives. They never do. Activists and social crusaders always act first and think second. It's the enduring legacy of the American left. While growing up, my parents would repeatedly tell me that I should engage my brain before putting my mouth into gear. Apparently the parents of lefties have never heard that truism.

Remember how these same groups screamed about all the dying trees in the '70s and '80s, effectively removing all paper bags from grocery stores? After a few years, they decided that plastic bags were worse, so everybody should carry around their own little biology class experiments in the form of re-usable cloth grocery bags. That, of course, is about as healthy for your bathed-in-Purell, low immunity snotlings as a nice long swim in the Hudson River basin. They could wash the bags, but since hippies only use cold water in order to save energy, it won't really do much good.

With that track record, how long do you think it'll be before they decide that paper containers are also evil? Pretty soon they'll be telling us to bring our own dishes and cutlery with us to fast food restaurants.

Michael Savage is right: Liberalism is a mental disorder.
