The opportunistic code slugs who gave life to such cultural flotsam as the "Grand Theft Auto" and "Bully" video games are bringing a new title to market: "DefJam Rapstar":
As the remnants of American society circle the drain, I watch the scions of the upper-middle-class families in our neighborhood as they try desperately to convert themselves into something resembling inner-city gutter sweepings. It's really quite pathetic, but more than that it's a troubling sign of cultural degeneration. These "hip-hoppers" (the new codename for "rap") are not the hot-rodders of the fifties or the relatively benign hipster intellectuals of the sixties and seventies: these are thugs and wannabe thugs. The only redeeming quality of moronic dungeon trash like Tupac Shakur is when they die violent deaths in the public spotlight.
I've no doubt, however, that this ridiculous "game" will sell like buttered hotcakes -- mostly from air conditioned malls and electronic superstores in white-collar suburbia.
This bizarre cultural inversion is yet another travesty for which we can thank LBJ and his "Great Society". Public housing has been the biggest disaster in the history of the nation and the worst thing that ever happened to blacks and the civil rights movement -- which naturally makes the Dems want to force public health care down our throats. Oh, it's good for them; keeps 'em in office. Largesse from the treasury and all that. Lyndon Johnson was the Sith Master of vote-buying and electioneering; Obama is but a young padawan. But he's learning fast.
So enjoy as your neighbors' kid "hip-hops" his brains into a bowl of oatmeal, (I'm certain no one who reads this blog regularly is dumb enough to buy such rat piss for their own children). When their ten year old starts flashing gang signs and spitting like a malfunctioning water pump, remind his parents of how lovely the child looks in blaze orange.
