Bad idea all around
U.S. bill seeks to rescue faltering newspapers
A Democractic Senator has introduced a bill that gives papers special tax breaks and would let them become non-profit organizations. This just stikes me as wrong on so many fronts. If they can't make it as a non-profit and with help, what is next, outright financial support? Government assisted is only one step away from government sponsored.
The first amendment protects the press from the interference from the government. I believe this should also mean assistance. Freedom of religion and of the press.
That the death of print news will somehow erode our freedoms is just silly. With 24 hour news channels, and the internet, people can get more news than they can shake a stick at. My local (liberal) and only paper gives cursory coverage of Politics, national news, and other topics I have interest in, and the price has gone up to 50 cents a day. Like many things Capitalism is Darwinism in action. Only the strong and those who adapt survive.

Who wants yesterday’s news delivered in a ink staining outdated format everyday? Did I say news? I meant blatantly biased political propaganda masquerading as journalism. Save the trees and let them go out of business.
