I don't have a problem treating them as criminals, as long as we do it the Roman way: nail them to a cross and let the vultures eat their eyeballs out.
The prospect of crucifixion has a way of making people think twice about their actions. That's why the Romans used it.
Putting them up in air conditioned rooms and giving them three squares a day just makes them think we're weak -- and I can't argue that point with them. We are weak.
