Castrate PETA

Our ol' buddies in PETA are up to no good once again:

A teacher who castrated a live pig in front of her high school class is the target of protests by animal rights activists throughout the country.

"We're concerned not only because animals suffer during these routine castrations but also because of the message it sends to students who are still forming opinions about treatment of animals in our society," said Stephanie Bell, a PETA cruelty case worker.

Oh, so it's all right as long as it's called "neutering" or "spaying" and it's done where you don't have to see it. But when it's taught as a skill to agriculture students it's suddenly "cruelty"? How about we stop castrating animals and start doing so to PETA members. That would have a very definite net positive effect for the human race.

None of the complaints have come from parents of district students, [school district superintendent Rod Van Norman] said.

A posting on PETA's Web site, however, says the organization learned of the castration from Rosamond parents, who reported that one student vomited after observing the procedure and others were extremely upset.

I would suggest to those students that they should reconsider FFA classes. Perhaps a nice home economics course would be more their cup of tea. Not many animal castrations to worry about when you're washing laundry.

These nonconsensual, medically unnecessary medical procedures are not something to be trifled with.
